Biodynamic agriculture
Biodynamic agriculture originated in the 1920s thanks to the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner,
who in 1924 held a series of lectures in Koberwitz, laying the foundations for an alternative and
sustainable agricultural model.
Steiner applied a holistic vision to farming: the agricultural estate should be regarded as a living
organism — a complete and self-sufficient individuality — capable of producing within itself what is necessary for its functioning, while minimizing external inputs as much as possible.
According to this vision, the estate is part of a larger organism: the environment, and its health,
contribute to the balance of the entire system.
Biodynamic agriculture combines scientific knowledge with spiritual principles rooted in
anthroposophy, placing at its core the relationship between human beings, nature, soil, and
climate.
Its primary objective is to preserve and enhance soil fertility, above all through the careful stewardship of humus.
Through biodynamic farming, Tenuta di Valgiano fosters responsibility and awareness among its
collaborators, so thatÂ
they may naturally perceive and understand the processes of nature. The aim is to cultivate balanced vineyards that yield healthy grapes, contributing to a shared sense of well-being. After 25 years of practice, soil fertility is regarded as the true capital of the TENUTA DI VALGIANO estate
